    Chattanooga, TN--UTC will host the 12th Annual Tennessee Indoor Rowing
Championships on Saturday, February 2nd in Maclellan Gym on the UTC campus.
Competitors will row on Concept 2 model C rowing machines, with as many as
40 machines being used at once.  All machines are hooked together by
computer with video display to allow each competitor to see where they are
in their respective event.  There will be 23 different events for men and
women:

     Open Men & Women
     Lightweight Men (under 165) & Women (under 135 lbs)
     Novice Men & Women (rowers in their first year of rowing)
     Youth I Men & Women (high school rowers ages 12-15)
     Youth II Men & Women (high school rowers ages 16-18)
     Youngster (ages 12 and under row for 5 minutes)
     Coxswain Men & Women (1,000 meters)
     Master Men & Women (age 27 and older)
     Senior Master Men & Women (age 40 and older)
     Veterans Men and Women (age 50 and older, with time handicap)
     Never-Ever Men & Women (those who have never-ever competed on the water)
     Recreational Row (30 minute row)
     Team Relay  (4 men & 4 women row 500 meters each)

    The events begin at 8 am with heats in the Novice, Lightweight and Open
events.  All other races and finals are in the afternoon with the
competition concluding at 5:30 pm.  The entry fee is $7 per person,with a
team cap of $70.  The Tennessee Indoor Rowing Championships is the third
largest indoor rowing event in North America (there are over 50 register
regattas).  The TIRC is a qualifying competition for the World
Championships in Boston on Ferbuary 24th.

    UTC Rowing is expecting between 550 and 600 competitors ranging in ages
from 4 to 88.  Some of the teams expected to attend include Alabama,
Alabama-Huntsville, Berry College, Clemson, Citadel, College Of Charleston,
Davidson, Emory, Furman, Georgia, Georgia State, Murray State, Rhodes
College, Tennessee, Univ of the South, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Baylor,
GPS< Chattanooga Juniors, McCallie, Stlanta Rowing Club, Oak Ridge RC,
Pellissippi RC, Knoxville RC, Lookout RC, Riverside Military Academy,
Tri-Cities RC, Rocket City RC, St, Andrews RC, and Birmingham RC.
