UTC linebacker Josh Cain was named the Southern Conference Defensive Player
of the Week for his efforts in Saturday's game at Wofford, the SoCon office
announced Tuesday.

Cain, a senior from Sequatchie, Tenn., made a season-best 22 tackles,
including 16 solo stops, in UTC's 27-21 loss at Wofford. In the second
quarter, on his eighth tackle of the day against the 20th-ranked Terriers,
Cain made the 400th tackle of his career. He became just the third player
in school history to compile 400 career tackles.

Cain's performance against the Terriers marked the third time in his career
in which he has surpassed the 20-tackle plateau. It was his sixth straight
double-digit tackle game this season and seventh consecutive dating back to
last year. He now has 22 double-figure tackle games for his career.

The middle linebacker is the leading tackler in the SoCon and has 98 total
hits through six games. He has 414 all-time tackles and ranks third in the
UTC record books.

A Preseason All-America this season, Cain won SoCon Defensive Player of the
Week honors twice last season.

The Mocs are off this week and host VMI Oct. 19 at 6 p.m.
