I presume that the debauchery of the corporate businesses such a Imclone
and Enron are of little concern to folks in the administration who are
guaranteed their pensions from the state based on the five highest earning
years. Is this some kind of social disease?
What should concern us is the refusal of this "Institution of Higher
Learning" (and those across this nation) that we continue to model behavior
that shows the coming generations of leaders what we give lip-service to is
just that, a lot of lip. I have nothing to loose here as an adjunct
faculty member....NOT! I tend to lose my relationships with my colleagues
who care so much for this institution as well as the students. So much so,
that personal lives take a back seat to professionalism and their
philosophy of education. I ask my students each semester to evaluate their
philosophies and ask the question: "Are you willing to sacrifice your
career for what you know is best for students"? I have no doubt that 99.9%
of the faculty and staff at UTC are willing to do just that. Maybe that's
why we get treated the way we do; the "decision makers" take advantage of
our values and disregard the philosophy of the University.
I beg your forgiveness for this venting of my frustration.
