Full-time faculty,

Please find below page 1 (information page) and page 2 (cover page)
regarding grants available to purchase material for Lupton Library to
support courses, instructional programs, or research. Individual full-time
faculty are eligible to receive grants up to $1000. However, because total
funds are limited ($5000), these Library Enhancement Initiative proposals
have been rather competitive and previously the Library Committee only has
been able to fund a portion of the proposals.

LIBRARY ENHANCEMENT INITIATIVE 2001-2002 Information Page

The University Library Committee is again able to sponsor the Library
Enhancement Initiative. Funding in the amount of $5000 is available to
enable full-time faculty to purchase one time materials (such as books,
videos, recordings, microfilm, etc.) that are consistent with the
University's instructional and research mission. Individual full-time
faculty are eligible to receive grants up to $1000 to support courses,
instructional programs, or research.

The Library Enhancement Initiative cannot be used to purchase
subscriptions, licenses, multiyear obligations, textbooks, workbooks or
other consumables, or multiple copies of titles. All materials purchased
are added to the Lupton Library's permanent collection.

Proposal Guidelines are given below (please note that your proposal will
not be considered if it violates any of the following guidelines):

1. The total dollar amount requested may not exceed $1000.00. Proposals
for smaller amounts are welcome and encouraged as funds are limited.
Decisions on funding of proposals will be made by University Library
Committee in January, 2002 and all applicants will be advised of a decision
at that time.

2. Fourteen (14) copies of the proposal must be received by noon on Friday,
December 7, 2001. If you are using campus mail, send the proposal to Tom
Rybolt (Chair of Library Committee), Department of Chemistry, Dept. 2252.
If you are delivering your proposal in person, bring it to Chemistry Dept.
404 Grote Hall.

3. This initiative funds only books, videos, CDs, microfilm or microfiche.
We cannot fund proposals to purchase subscriptions, licenses or other
multi-year obligations; textbooks, workbooks, or other consumables, or
multiple copies of titles.

4. Please check to make certain that the Lupton Library does not already
own the resources you are requesting. If the proposal requests materials
currently held by the library (new editions excepted) the amount requested
(funded) will be decreased accordingly.

5. Please provide an itemized list of requested resources, including
prices, ISBNs (if requesting books), and ordering information (if
requesting videos, CDs, microfilm, or microfiche). Do not send catalogues,
catalogue pages, printouts from internet sites, etc. Please include only
specific ordering information.

6. The proposal must include (1) the completed cover sheet, (2) a one page
double spaced narrative, and (3) an itemized list of materials requested
including ordering information and prices. The narrative (maximum one
page) provides a rationale for the proposal that addresses the following
questions:
(a) How will you use these materials in the program, course, or research
for which they are intended?

(b) How essential are these materials to your achieving the goals of the
instructional program, course, or research for which they are intended?

(c) How will these materials strengthen the Lupton Library's collection?

(d) If materials are primarily for a program or course, approximately
how many students per year will benefit from them? Approximately how
frequently is the course offered?
