Dr. Helen Eigenberg, Director of the School of Social and Community Services,
has received a $198,672 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice for a
two-year project entitled: “Prevent, Reduce, Intervene, Serve, Educate: Stop
Violence Against Women at UTC”.
In this project Dr. Eigenberg and her staff will implement a
comprehensive campus-based advocacy program designed to help prevent violence
against women. A multidisciplinary coordinating council will be created by
the
staff to increase awareness about violence against women on UTC’s campus.
Support services will be offered to victims on campus and to better equip
campus law enforcement to enforce university policies. Some of the services
the staff will offer to victims include: victim referrals to community
agencies, group counseling and educational programs. This program will better
educate all of campus by providing information concerning available services,
penalties for perpetrators and the nature of the problem.
This award represents the first award ever made to UTC in this program at
the U.S. Department of Justice. Please join in commending Dr. Eigenberg
for her exemplary work in securing these funds and supporting this cause.
