Dear University Community,

The following link will lead to an article titled:

"Discarded computer hard drives prove a trove of personal info."

http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/news/archive/2003/01/15/national1617EST0765.DTL

It is the results of a research project at MIT to try to quantify the
amount of sensitive information that had not been erased.

Being a recent victim (I truly loathe that word and am NOT seeking any
pity) of identity theft, this hit pretty close to home so I thought I would
share it with everyone as something to be aware of when you replace both
your personal and office computers.

I had originally heard about this last night on NPR.

Thank you.

Stephen Leather
