To the Engineering Faculty and Anyone Else Proficient With CAD,
I recently received this email from Chattanooga's own Dan Landrum, of
hammer dulcimer fame. If anyone is interested in helping him on this cool
sounding project, please contact him directly at:

Thanks,

Nick,
I am currently working with a friend on a design for a new hammer dulcimer.
The concept is to give it a metal frame, similar to the way a piano is
built. The finished product would have a free floating sound board with no
back. In other words we are opening up the box.
I'm writing you because we'd like to get someone with a CAD program and some
engineering skill to help us determine the amount of bracing necessary based
on calculated string tension. We have the formula for calculating the
string tension but don't have a clue as to aluminum tolerances. Do you have
a suggestion as to whom I might be able to talk to at the university?
Thanks,
Dan
