Sorry, Deborah, but I think that you are raising a dead herring about
the validity of the vote at the Faculty meeting regarding post-tenure
review. I didn't count faculty present, but Grote 129 is a big
room and it was packed. I haven't seen faculty sitting on the steps in the
back of that room in a long time and they were for that meeting. True,
staff and others were also present and some of them may have voted on the
policy. I hope that some staff did if they work in the library, because
the policy affects them too.
In any case, you and I have no way of knowing if staff or visitors
from the community at large voted. If they did, there is also no way of
telling which way the voted. In fact, staff from some administrative
offices could have voted in favor of the policy, though I doubt that
happened. Personally, I think that the vote accurately reflected faculty
sentiment at the time. Let's move on and consider the more important
points in Richard Rice's proposal. I am hoping that we can find a way out
of the morass in which we now find ourselves.
