Thanks to Rardy Spratt for initiating discussion about the bad
conditions for pedestrians on East 5th Street sidewalks. East 5th
Street is the main entrance to the university now and will be even
more so when the UC is finished. The vision for East 5th Street is a
pedestrian-friendly street with wide sidewalks and large shade trees.
UTC has a continuing dialogue with the city about improvements to
East 5th Street. We hope to see important change on a large scale.

Thanks to Gail Meyer for initiating discussion about Vine Street to
vehicular traffic. Very few members of the UTC community wish to see
that happen. The Ross/Fowler landscape architecture firm has
designed a centerpiece at the Vine and Baldwin Street intersection
that will be a permanent focal point for the campus and will stop
efforts to open Vine Street. Ross/Fowler designed Chattanooga's
Riverwalk, and they have excellent plans for improving this campus.
