Several supervisors have requested that students be pre-assigned to their
department for Fall, 1999. Now that students pick up their contracts and
take them to the department; and the department signs the contract to hire
the student, there's no need to "pre-assign".
(A) The contract is the supervisor's verification that the student has
been awarded FWS.
(B) The signed contract is our authorization to put the student on the
payroll with the hiring department as responsible account (FWS still pays.)
(C) The primary responsibility of the hiring department is to not go over
the number of allocated positions since they may see more than one student
per position.
Those of us used to the old system of a student checking out a Job Card
and being able to "HOLD" a position until the student brought the card back
to Financial Aid, remember the difficulty of being able to get the right
student in our position. We fixed that.
You need to make sure that your student worker has completed their
financial aid file so they can be awarded Federal Work Study. The priority
date for financial aid is April 1 - we start awarding those students who
completed their file by April 1 FIRST. Money runs out quickly.
