Fellow faculty:
If you're like me you undoubtedly have more books in your office than you
can handle. A week must not go by without my receiving another new addition
of a textbook or two. Now, I know that some of you help clean out some of
these extra books by selling them to the ubiquitous textbook buyers who
relentlessly patrol campus. But, if you're not looking for a few extra
dollars, and would like to help out a good cause I would like to suggest
another option. Aniekan Ebiefung (Math) and I represent UTC on the Hamilton
County Department of Education's Coalition for Math and Science Excellence,
a group dedicated to assisting local teachers improve their teaching of math
and science in our local schools. A new initiative of the Coalition is to
try to improve the personal libraries of local teachers, and potentially
some of the better students, with regard to math and science text books (or
other technologically relevant books). If you happen to have a book or two
that you really don't need and feel that the Coalition's idea to help spread
the word is reasonable, please let me know. I'll be glad to collect such
books and get them to the Coalition for distribution to teachers. We will
be trying to have some books available by early August, when they have a
workshop for math and science teachers. Please drop me a line if you have
any questions.
Thank you,
Henry Spratt
