It is with sadness that I inform the UTC community of the death of
Patricia Lancaster, an adjunct faculty member in the Chemistry
Department. Many of you may know Pat from her years of teaching
chemistry at Hixson High School and GPS.
Patricia Philpot Lancaster, 68, of Chattanooga, passed away Monday, Jan.
2, 2006, in a local hospital.
Born in Anderson, S.C., she grew up in Cookeville, Tenn., and graduated
from Tennessee Tech with a B.S. and M.A. She taught chemistry for over
47
years at the university and secondary school levels. She had lived in
Chattanooga since 1979 and was an elder at Northside Presbyterian
Church.
Survivors: husband, James T. Lancaster; daughter, Terry Beth Lancaster,
of Johnson City, Tenn.; son, Michael S. Lancaster, of Signal Mountain;
brother, James E. Philpot, of Cookeville; and three grandchildren,
Maddie, Allie and Aaron Lancaster.

Pat was a strong supporter of the ACS for a number of years. She served
as the 1998 Chair of the Chattanooga Section of the American Chemical
Society.
She coordinated the activities for the Local Section's National
Chemistry Week for a number of years. Her services to the ACS have been
deeply appreciated. She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
