COUNCIL OF DEANS
June 1, 1999

PRESENT:        W. Aiken, D. Arfken, B. Berry, S. Delacroix, B. Desmond, J.
Harbaugh, G. Janeksela, T. Summerlin, M. Tanner, M. Willis

Approval of Minutes
The minutes of May 18, 1999, were approved.

Equipment Needs
Provost Berry announced that UTC will receive an additional $1.3 million in
operating appropriations for 1999-2000.  Discussion followed on identifying
specific equipment needs in the various colleges.  Dr. Berry asked deans to
send him one or two paragraphs on the needs that were mentioned.

Retreat Topics
Various topics for discussion at the first Deans Council retreat were
identified.  The Provost invited the council members to send their top
three agenda items they would like to discuss at the retreat.

Provost's Announcements
A conference call was set up involving President Joe Johnson, Dr. Bob Levy,
several other system administrators, chief academic officers, and the
Tenure Review Committee to discuss the performance review policies.  The
policies will be presented to the Board of Trustees at their June meeting.
Implementation of the policies will become effective upon approval by the
Board.

School/College/Division Reports
Dr. Deborah Arfken reported that the Graduate Studies website is now
completed.

Dr. Marilyn Willis announced that the visit with the Connected Learning
Network staff went well.  She and CLN continue discussions with the College
of Business Administration and may send a group to Louisville.

Dr. Tim Summerlin announced that the Western Humanities summer workshop,
supported by the UC Foundation, was a success.  The supporting materials
provided should be extremely helpful.  Credit goes to all the presenters.

A motion to adjourn was moved and seconded.
