One person's quackery is another person's entertainment. My daughter and I
experienced the "Oxygen Parlor" today during my lunch hour and enjoyed it
immensely. The scents were mild and enjoyable, and the overall sensation
was relaxing. What more could one want from a respite from the every day
humdrum of campus life?

No one claims it is a cure-all for what ails you. It was simply another of
the delightful breaks so graciously provided the campus community by ACE.
That, after all, is one of the group's functions.

I was both energized and relaxed at the same time, as the advertisement for
the experience proposed. Perhaps a 20-minute nap would have provided the
same sensations, but the aroma/oxygen was a much more fun way of achieving
the condition. As an entertainment, in my opinion, it succeeded.

As for the recuperative function of high levels of oxygen, my son-in-law
was recently hospitalized with a severe injury to his foot which entailed
several surgeries and weeks of hospitalization. When his foot would not
heal properly on its own, he was totally emersed in an oxygen tube for
half-hour therapy sessions daily for 5 days. The healing process finally
began, and his foot is on its way to full recovery. Why, if our blood
streams are 97% saturated to begin with, would his orthopedic surgeon
prescribe oxygen therapy? It apparently does have its uses.

I, for one, sincerely hope ACE continues to provide these little events
(small enough to fit under the Lupton Library portico) for those of us who
enjoy the occasional break from routine.
