Happy Disability Awareness Month!

Today we are doing our annual adopt a disability day for the campus. For
this activity, members of our campus community adopt a disability and
are paired with student coaches who have the same or similar disability.
Prior to engaging in this activity, we have a brief session about
disability etiquette and discuss the purpose of this activity with
participants. Before leaving Frist Hall, participants have a strong
understanding that this activity is not to gain an understanding of what
it is like to have a disability, but what our environment is like for
people with disabilities. The student coaches teach the participants how
to navigate the campus with the disabilities while also giving them an
opportunity to ask questions about living with a disability. 

This has been an incredibly impactful activity and we hope this year is
no different. 

 

Participants will be discussing their experiences at the discussion
panel today at 3:00 in the Sequoyah Room in the University Center.
Please plan on attending to hear the words of wisdom from our
participants.
