Faculty Development Grants
The following faculty development grants were awarded for the April 1999
round:

A total of $1,652 was awarded for the 1998-99 fiscal year, which leaves a
remaining balance of $0.  A total of $4,565 was awarded for the 1999-2000
fiscal year because these grants would occur before or very near the July
15 round.  A number of grants that did not occur until September or beyond
were deferred to be resubmitted in the July 15 round.

Obear Professorship Nominations
Discussion of the nominations for the Patricia Draper Obear Distinguished
Teaching Professorship followed.  The Provost will make a recommendation to
the Chancellor by Wednesday, April 28.

School/College/Division Reports
Dr. Deborah Arfken announced that Governor Sundquist has proclaimed April
19-23 as Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week in Tennessee.
His proclamation honors more than 25,000 graduate and professional students
in the state.

Dr. Bill Gurley announced that the College of Engineering and Computer
Science held its annual Spring Senior Banquet today.  Dr. Gurley has just
returned from Knoxville, where he attended the Council of Faculty Advisors
meeting of which he is a member.

Ms. Beth Crawford distributed a letter from President Johnson expressing
the University of Tennessee's desire to be an integral part of the
Renaissance Center and the Tennessee Virtual University.
