This summer, for four days--June 1-4--, UTC humanities faculty will be
conducting a workshop on strategies for teaching the texts and works of two
(proposed) new Category B core courses, Western Humanities 113 and 115.
The workshop, designed both for those who will begin to teach the courses
next academic year and for those who are interested in teaching them at
some time in the future, will provide a chance for all participants to
compare notes on teaching methodologies, syllabus preparation, preferred
editions of texts, etc. There will be presentations and discussion on nine
of the texts and works of art required for the courses. The number of
participants will be limited to fifteen. The workshop will most likely be
held in the newly refurbished Fortwood Room of the University Center, with
lunch served daily in the Foundation Room. Each participant will be paid
$100 per diem, for a total of $400 for the entire workshop. Of course, all
materials needed for the workshop will be provided, as will certain
amenities.

If you are interested in attending the Western Humanities Summer Workshop,
please contact me as soon as possible (4347 if by phone). I'll be glad to
answer any of your questions.
