Dear Colleagues,

I want to make sure that you heard this directly from me.

After much consideration and deliberation with Sue, I have decided to allow
my name to remain among the nominees as a candidate for the presidency of
the University of Tennessee.

You and the work we have accomplished here in Chattanooga are most
significant to me. If the time comes that I am asked to serve the
University of Tennessee in a different role, I will remember the needs we
have articulated for this campus and area.

There is much yet to do here that we have begun together. I am still the
Chattanooga chancellor and will continue to devote full efforts to our
shared tasks.

I just felt it important to share this information with you.
