UTC PLACES 93 STUDENT-ATHLETES ON FALL DEAN’S LIST

        CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.---This fall, Chattanooga’s student-athletes proved they
can be
successful both on the field and in the classroom. Ninety-three
student-athletes made UTC’s
Dean’s List for the Fall 1998 semester, the school announced Thursday.
The football team led the way with 15 players making the list. The women’s
cross country
team followed with 13 Dean’s List student-athletes, and the soccer team was
close behind with 12.
A minimum GPA of 3.2 is required to make the Dean’s List.
“I am extremely pleased of the success our student-athletes have had in
their academics
during the fall semester,” UTC Director of Athletics Oval Jaynes said. “It
is a clear indication that
they are committed to not only being a good athlete, but they are
interested in being the best in the
classroom as well. This also speaks well for our coaches and the Academic
Support Services.
Without their continued support, we could not achieve our goals.”
Fifteen student-athletes posted perfect 4.0 GPA’s for the Fall Semester.
The 4.0 athletes
were Brian Hampton, football; Ivan Poullaos, men’s tennis; Christy Gilliam,
softball; Marylauren
Mesich, Charlene Shaughnessy and Erika Vonpeters, soccer; Sarah Dutcher,
volleyball; Terri
Brock, women’s basketball; Daniela Greco, Iris Karabelas and Angela Miller,
women’s tennis; and
Michelle Cooke, Natalie Scruggs, Anna Wright and Catherine Wright, women’s
cross country.
Another 33 athletes made the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll with GPA’s
between 3.0 and
3.199.
