Dear UTC Faculty & Staff,

Yesterday I was down at the Chattanooga History Museum and saw the
exhibit they have prepared showing 100 years of Chattanooga football.
I was so pleased that I wanted to tell you all about it and that I hope you
will all go see it before it closes in December. The museum will be having
several special events to go along with the exhibit -- the first on August
9. For those of you with children, this is an excellent opportunity to see
the entire museum as there will be a reduced price.

“Football's First 100 Years at Chattanooga's University
2:00 p.m., August 9, 2003
Help the Chattanooga Regional History Museum kick off "Celebrating a
Century: Football at Chattanooga's University," its exhibit on the 100th
anniversary of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga's (UTC) football
program, by coming to "Football’s First 100 Years at Chattanooga's
University" Saturday, August 9, at 2:00 p.m.

Local writer John Shearer, author of the recently published book, Mocs
Football: A History, will lead a tour of the exhibit and present a
historical overview of the football team. Former standout Moc football
players Sib Evans, Sr., and Joe Petosa, will be on hand to share memories of
playing for the Mocs in their eras.

Evans came to the University of Chattanooga from Bluefield, W.Va., and was a
standout member of the 1940 and 1941 Dixie Conference champion Mocs under
legendary coach A.C. "Scrappy" Moore. He went on to serve as a teacher and
coach at Baylor School and later served as headmaster at Bright School.

Petosa was recruited to UTC from Staten Island, N.Y., by former coach Rich
Kotite, and played on head coach Joe Morrison's 1977 and 1978 Southern
Conference Championship teams. He was an All-Southern Conference guard
during both seasons. In 1978, he was Honorable Mention All-American in
Division I. He now works in TVA's Nuclear Division at Sequoyah Nuclear
Plant.

Mr. Shearer's book will be available for purchase at the museum.

"Celebrating a Century: Football at Chattanooga’s University" opens August
8, 2003, and will be on view through January 21, 2004.

For the day of the event, the museum charges a special admission fee of
$2.00 each per person (1/2 of the museum’s regular adult admission fee of
$4.00). Paid admission entitles each visitor to attend the program and
visit the museum's permanent and changing exhibits.

For more information, contact the museum at 423-265-3247.
