DISNEY ON ICE COMES TO TOWN; PARKING LOT CLOSED
Due to the performances of Disney On Ice next week at the McKenzie
Arena, LOT 35 between Arena and Tennis Courts will be closed to all
vehicles starting Friday, Oct 31 at 5 pm until Monday, Nov 10 at 6
pm. This closing is necessary to accommodate their Ice Making trucks,
generators and equipment next to the Arena. Any vehicles in Lot35
after Friday at 5 pm will be subject to towing at owners expense.

Your cooperation is appreciated.

FYI -- UTC Student discounts are available for the performances of
Disney On Ice's "TOY STORY 2" Wednesday thru Sunday, Nov. 5-9.

EAT FOR A GOOD CAUSE
Hungry Mate? F.E.A.T. (Families for Early Autism Treatment) is

COLLEGE REPUBLICANS INVITE PARTICIPATION
The UTC College Republicans meet every Monday at 2:00 in the Signal
Mtn. Room of the UC.  Everyone is welcome to attend and hear our
speakers which are to be announced.


STUDENTS ORGANIZING TO WORK WITH MADD
A group of UTC students are organizing to promote local participation
in a public policy institute by MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving)
to be held in Atlanta in January 2004.

Students who want to learn more about how to make a difference in
changing DUI/DUA laws and working with MADD can contact Justin Rhodes

Registration for the institute is free, and space is limited.
Drunk driving is a leading cause of death for college students. For

GOING ONCEŠGOING TWICEŠSOLD!
This year's Student Alumni Council's Annual Silent Auction will be
held Nov. 11-12 in the Lookout Mountain room in the UC from
10:00a.m.-4:00p.m.  You will have the opportunity to bid on items
such as:  Hotel Stays, YMCA Memberships, Atlanta Braves and TN Titans
Memorabilia, Dinners at Local Restaurants, Dinner with VIP Hosts,
Tickets to Arena Events and Basketball Games, Golf Green Fees, Oil
Changes, Car Washes, Massages, and MORE!  So scrape up some cash and
come on down to the SAC Silent Auction from Nov. 11-12 in the Lookout
Mountain Room of the UC.


DISASTER PREPAREDNESS IS TOPIC OF FORUM
The Leadership Chattanooga Alumni Association (LCAA) is sponsoring a
public forum on Disaster Preparedness in Hamilton County, Tennessee
on November 6 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Tennessee Room in the
University of Tennessee at Chattanooga University Center.
    The purpose of the forum is to educate the community on the plans
that are in place to ensure public safety in the event of a
disaster.
    Bill Tittle, Chief  of Hamilton County Government Emergency
Management, and Don Allen, Manager of Hamilton County Emergency
Services, will provide an overview of disaster preparedness and
public communications.  Wayne Cropp will facilitate a panel
discussion on institutional and personal
preparedness with presenters:

Dr. James H. Creel, Jr.  Erlanger Health Systems Emergency Department
Terry Boston  Executive Vice President, TVA Transmission & Power Supply
Dr. Valerie Boaz  Chattanooga/Hamilton County Health Department
Sergeant Andrew Hilton  Chattanooga City Police Department
Chief Chuck Nichols  Chattanooga City Fire Department
Bill Douglas  EMS Director, American Red Cross

The forum is open to the public.  Free parking is available in UTC
lots 11, 12 and 13.


RAPE DEFENSE TRAINING OFFERED
The UTC Campus Police will offer a Rape Aggression Defense training
series. It will start on the Nov. 5th and continue on the 12th and
the 19th of Nov. The class meets from 6 to 10pm.  This will be three
consecutive Weds. for 4 hrs each. Individuals must attend all three
sections. Participation is  first come first serve. Send an email to

HOUSING PROBLEMS AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Mark your calendar. On Tuesday, November 18, 2003, at 2:00 p.m.,
there will be a presentation and discussion on the housing problems
of victims of domestic violence and abuse. It will be held at the
conference room at The Salvation Army at 800 McCallie Avenue. If need
be, feel free to park at the Doctors Building next door. Everyone is
invited. This free program is sponsored by The Chattanooga Area Fair
Housing Roundtable and Legal Aid of East Tennessee.


SUMMER STUDY OPPORTUNITY IN INDIA
For UTC Students Only:

An extraordinary summer 2004 opportunity available only to UTC
students who will not graduate before December, 2004: 6 semester
hours of credit for travelling to India to take a course there with
two UTC professors. At least 75% of the costs will be covered by a
special fellowship provided by Lupton funds. 5 weeks in India, 1 week
of orientation at UTC, beginning in early June. Study the religions
of India in the ancient southern Hindu city of Madurai. Each student
will do a communications project focusing on issues of religion,
gender, media, and society. Applications and further information

Campus Recreation would like to invite all staff, faculty, and
students to participate in the following activities for the fall.

Backpacking - Intro to backpacking in a great location - The Great
Smoky Mountains.
Hiking - Easy evening hike on local trails around the city of Chattanooga.


VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Reality Check is a program teaching high school students the
realities of working and paying bills. The program needs volunteers
for its fall offerings.  Here are the dates for the fall events.
   November 4:  7:30-2:00 - Soddy Daisy
   November 5:  7:15-11:30 - Lookout Valley
   November 7:  7:00-2:15 - Ooltewah High
   November 13:  7:15-1:00  Red Bank High

Come for part or all of the time on a particular day.  This is a fun
event and the students get so much from the experience.  Also, the
Chamber will sponsor a drawing for a DVD system.  Every time you
volunteer your name goes in the pot.  The drawing will be in the
Spring after all of the Reality Check programs have been offered to
the schools.

Be an important part of Chattanooga's largest holiday parade! The
Chattanooga Downtown Partnership is looking for people interested in
volunteering for the 2003 Holiday Starlight Parade to be held on
Saturday, December 6th, from 6 - 7 PM in Downtown Chattanooga.  Some
of the positions available include: balloon and costume handlers,
parade route marshals, unit staging and escorts, banner carriers,
etc.  Pick up a volunteer application in the Chattanooga Downtown
Partnership office at 850 Market Street, 2nd Floor, Miller Plaza. For

FINANCIAL AID PEER COUNSELORS SOUGHT
The UTC Financial Aid Office is looking for students interested in
jobs serving as Peer Counselors in local high schools helping high
school seniors and their parents in the Admissions and Financial Aid
Application processes.
    The pay rate for Peer Counselors is $7.50 per hour. Students would
begin job duties in January. Details of the program are listed for
your convenience.
    Definition of Program:  A state grant sponsored by the Tennessee
Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators and Tennessee
Student
Assistance Corporation (TSAC).  It is not Federal Work Study.  The
Peer Counselor Program is actual employment through the state of
Tennessee and administered by the Financial Aid Office.
    Purpose: To fulfill duties as a Resource Personnel for the
guidance counselor(s) at an area high school by assisting students in
understanding
and completing the financial aid and college admissions processes.
    Criteria:  The selected applicants must:
1) enjoy working with people
2) have patience when helping others
3) have initiative
4) be responsible and dependable
5) have own transportation
6) have a class schedule which allows him/her to work during the high
school's hours of operation.
    Please Note:  A mandatory training session will be scheduled.
Students unable to attend training will not be allowed to work as a
Peer Counselor.
Date and time of training will be given at interview.

ASSOCIATION FOR CAMPUS ENTERTAINMENT
Interested in creating fun for the UTC campus?? You need to join ACE.
We are the Association for Campus Entertainment and we meet on
Thursdays at 4:30 in the University Center Lookout Mountain room. We
will be discussing all the new upcoming events for UTC campus. If you
are already tired of classes, come help create things to do outside

NATIONAL SOCIETY OF BLACK ENGINEERS
NATIONAL SOCIETY OF BLACK ENGINEERS (NSBE)  will meets every other
Tuesday at 6:30pm in ECMS (New Engineering Building) Room 402 . All
technical-oriented majors (maths, physics, chemistry, pre.med,
computer science, engineering) are invited and any other students
that are interested. Next meeting will be 10/28/03.

PRE-LAW CLUB
The Prelaw club will hold a meeting on Tuesday, September 30th at
4:00 in Fletcher 213. The meetings will be every other week at the
same time and same place. Everyone interested in law is invited to
come.

SOCIETY FOR ADVANCEMENT OF MANAGEMENT (SAM)
The Society for Advancement of Management (SAM) will meets on
Tuesday's at 2:00pm in Fletcher 113.  There will be a Guest speaker
at each meeting. All Majors, Freshman to Seniors are welcome.
Refreshments will be served.

SPECTRUM
Spectrum, UTC's Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Heterosexual
alliance will meet every Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in Fletcher 105. There
are lots of exciting things happening this semester so come join us.

Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) meets every Wednesday at 3:30 in
Fletcher 105.  NO membership fee required
