OPERATIONS LT.

THEFT: DON'T LET IT HAPPEN TO YOU!
On behalf of the Campus Police Department, we wish to welcome everyone back
to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga for another year full of
growth and new learning experiences.
PREVENTING CRIME IS EVERYONE'S RESPONSIBILITY. Your role may be the key to
creating a safer environment in which to live, study, and work.

Criminals who see an opportunity for gain will take risks. Robberies can
happen to anyone, anywhere, at any time. If we work together, we may be
able to put a stop to crime before it occurs.

THE FOLLOWING ARE A FEW SUGGESTIONS WHICH MAY REDUCE THE OPPORTUNITY FOR
CRIME TO OCCUR BY PLANNING AHEAD FOR PERSONAL PROTECTION.

* CARRY ONLY CASH WHEN IT IS NECESSARY, and if at all possible, DON'T
CARRY A PURSE.
* BE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR KEYS. Always know where they are and never
hide a key under a doormat or any other outdoor location.
* DON'T LEAVE YOUR BELONGINGS UNATTENDED, even for just a minute -
That's all the thief needs.
* KEEP ALL DOORS AND WINDOWS LOCKED, AND DEADBOLTED IF
POSSIBLE. Never leave doors propped open.
* HAVE GOOD LIGHTING AROUND YOUR DOORS.
* KNOW WHO IS AT THE DOOR BEFORE OPENING IT. Never open the door to
a stranger.
* MARK ALL BELONGINGS. Have them engraved or make an identifying
mark with indelible ink.
* NEVER STATE ON YOUR ANSWERING MACHINE THAT YOU ARE NOT AT
HOME. Say things, such as "I can't come to the phone at the moment," or
"Your call is important to me, so please leave a message."
Don't provide the opportunity for theft! Crime prevention is everybody's
business.

emergency blue-light phones.
