Approval of Minutes
The minutes of May 12, 1999, were approved.

CCAS Statement on Professional Guidelines for the Evaluation of Academic Deans
Dr. Berry distributed guidelines for the evaluation of academic deans as
recommended by the Council on Colleges of Arts and Sciences.

Summer School Budgets
Dr. Berry encouraged deans to continue to monitor low enrollment courses
during the summer sessions. Any courses that fall below the minimum number
of students should be canceled or justification given to continue the
course. He asked that deans provide him detailed information regarding low
enrollment classes.

Technology Committee
Dr. Berry indicated that the Technology Committee's recommendations have
been approved by the Budget Committee and the Chancellor. The Provost will
send a list of the recommendations to the deans with the understanding that
the items cannot be purchased until the funding becomes available.

Fall Enrollments
The marketing committee met to discuss plans for the fall enrollment push.
Phone calls, letter writing, etc. will begin in middle or late June. It
was suggested that a special event be held to target non-traditional
students, along with other groups. There was discussion of offering
general education classes during the evenings and weekends.

Provost's Announcements
The Council of Deans will hold two retreats this summer. The first one
will be held on Friday, June 11. The second will be held either July 22 or
23rd. Suggestions for agenda items should be sent to the Provost as soon
as possible.

Dr. Berry asked the deans to send him a summary paragraph on each newly
hired faculty by June 4.

The Provost wants to interview candidates for all tenure track positions.
Departments should check the Provost's calendar before making arrangements
with the faculty candidate to ensure that the Provost will be available.

School/College/Division Reports
Ms. Sheila Delacroix announced that Sherry Young has received her doctorate
from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.

Dr. Marilyn Willis has scheduled a meeting with representatives from the
Connected Learning Network for Friday, May 21. A demonstration, open to
all on campus, will be held at 8:30 a.m. The representatives will then
meet with individual colleges to discuss specific departmental/college needs.

Adjournment
A motion to adjourn was moved and seconded.

Respectfully submitted,
Barbara Verhine
