Hey, Folks:

Here is ArtsChatt, resurrected today. Don't forget about Traditional Arts
Day on Friday from the park across from the bookstore to the UC, where you
can hear local artists the Ripe and Ready Players, led by Suzanne Carter;
Israeli, Celtic, Indian/Pakistani, Celtic, Jazz, Folk, Old-time and Blues
(with a preview of Carolina Blues). There will also be traditional visual
arts on display and being demonstrated on Vine in front of the UC. This
event is possible thanks to a Lupton Renaissance grant.

We're crossing our fingers and hoping this works! Some of you got no mail
from us for a month, some got the same issue three times, but a week late.
Here's hoping we've got it straightened out this time.

April brings warmer weather and some wonderful arts events. This Friday is
First Friday Freebie at the Hunter Museum. You can visit for free and
check out the "Best of Tennessee Craft" exhibit, curated by the Tennessee
Association of Craft Artists-the same people who bring us the wonderful
Celebration of Fine Craft every fall in Coolidge Park.

Theatre fans have much to celebrate this week. TAPA presents "Cabaret" on
Wednesday and Thursday at the Tivoli Theatre. It's a powerful show, set in
pre-war Nazi Germany, which deals with global issues as well as
relationships between individuals. It also happens to have great tunes and
dance numbers.

On Friday, the Chattanooga Theatre Centre opens Pearl Cleage's "Flying
West," the story of black pioneers who settled in the West after the Civil
War. Ms. Cleage is a great favorite of Chattanooga readers-she's been a
featured speaker in the Arts and Education Council's Conference on Southern
Literature.

Blues fans will want to catch "Carolina Blues" at the Roland Hayes Concert
Hall at UTC this Saturday. Part of the Dorothy Patten Fine Arts Series,
"Carolina Blues" features Scott Ainslie and George Higgs. Lightnin' Wells
rounds out this trio of masters of the guitar and harmonica. It's
traditional blues at its best.
FOR TICKETS CALL 755-4269 OR COME TO THE FINE ARTS CENTER BOX OFFICE.

The Chattanooga Symphony is presenting a series of four free concerts this
week, at Christ United Methodist Church in East Brainerd, New Monumental
Baptist Church on East Eighth Street, Chattanooga High School Center for
the Creative Arts on Dallas Road, and Olivet Baptist Church on M. L. King
Boulevard. Check our website for dates and times. Featured composers
include Richard Rogers, Duke Ellington, Scott Joplin, Beethoven, and
Mozart. What a treat!

There are many more arts events this week, which you can find on our
website at www.alliedartschattanooga.org, where you can also get
information on times, locations, and purchasing tickets.
