>INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY CENTER
>Best Practices@UT2001 Faculty Showcase
>
>The Best Practices@UT2001 Showcase, hosted by Innovative Technology Center
in September, drew over 30 presenters from the Ag Institute, Chattanooga,
Martin, and Memphis. Members of the statewide UT community gathered to
exchange ideas and view model examples of instructional technology use at
its best. From streaming video and fully online courses to self-contained
instructional modules and interactive training
>simulations, the event showcased the best practices of innovative faculty
across the state. A few examples:

>* "Virtual Corporation To Teach Public Relations Techniques"
>
>* "How To Conduct Research in Medicine: Competency-Based Learning over
>the Web Tutorial on Research Ethics"
>
>* "Mulciber: an E-journal of Essays on Topics in Architectural
>Technology by Graduate Students at the College of Architecture and
>Design"

>Project SET Call for Proposals-- Educational Technology Collaborative
>
>In the 2001 UT Faculty Instructional Technology Survey, approximately 90%
of faculty respondents across all UT campuses indicated that they were
interested in integrating technology into their teaching practice. This
overwhelming interest has motivated UT to develop a new way to provide
teaching staff with the requisite resources, services, and support to
develop quality technology-enhanced instruction.
>
>For this purpose, the University developed the Educational Technology
Collaborative (ETC), a statewide faculty-development initiative. Led by
instructional resource professionals, the ETC will leverage existing
instructional technology expertise from all UT campuses to advance the
educational process and enrich the learning experience of students, both
resident and remote.
>
>The first initiative and core activity of the ETC is Project SET (Sharing
Educational Technology). Instructional resource professionals will develop
and contribute peer-reviewed, reusable, web-based instructional technology
modules to a shared repository made available to all UT faculty, staff, and
students. These modules will function as generic vehicles to provide
information and teach skills and learning strategies to faculty statewide.
Modules will be delivered totally online and be structured so users can
progress through them in a self-directed manner at any time, from any
place. Project SET will provide faculty not only with convenient access but
also with experience using technology for instruction, access to expert
information, and exposure to diverse teaching styles.
>
>Any full-time staff member, faculty member, or graduate student from any
UT campus (Chattanooga, Knoxville, Martin, Memphis, or Tullahoma) may apply
for Project SET funding. Potential contributors include instructional
designers and technologists, web programmers, graphic and interface
designers, multimedia specialists, librarians, IT support personnel, and
instructional technology savvy faculty and graduate students. Proposals are
due November 1, 2001. The ETC Advisory Board, comprised of faculty from
across all UT campuses, will determine the Project SET grant recipients by
December 3, 2001. Grant awards of $3,000 will be made to the recipients'
departments rather than directly to individuals or teams. For more
