Damn! The most interesting meeting of my 30-year academic career, and I must, if I care anything about my relationship with the woman I love, be out of town.

Subject: [UTCSTAFF] Faculty Senate Meeting

The Executive Committee of the Faculty Senate met with the Chancellor and Provost this morning (Tuesday). We had a broad ranging discussion regarding priorities, raises, budget, salary compression, and equity. Rather than filtering the information through me, I have requested the Chancellor and Provost to attend the Senate meeting on Thursday at 3:00 p.m. in Fletcher 100. They have said "yes". Unfortunately the Chancellor has a speaking engagement in Gatlinburg at 6:30. He will probably have to leave by 3:30 (since our plane is missing). Since the agenda is set, I must get permission of the Senate to modify the agenda. If they approve the Chancellor will have some time to openly discuss the issues that are currently engaging the campus. I believe that now is the time for open, frank communication.

If you cannot make the meeting, or choose not to attend, minutes of the discussion will be distributed to the entire campus.

Best,

Marvin
