The next Chattanooga Writers Guild monthly meeting is just one week away:
When: Tuesday, June 11th, 2002, 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Where: UTC Patten House (Faculty Club) (located at Oak and Palmetto on the
UTC campus)
Who: Dr. Joe DeGross will be the featured speaker; he will read from two
short stories that vary, stylistically, and discuss the process for writing
each.
After the reading, there will be time to talk with Dr. DeGross and time to
mingle with other area writers. As always, we will serve light refreshments.
More about the author:
Joe is a writer, editor, ethicist, and physician. He writes essays, creative
non-fiction, and fiction. He minored in philosophy and theology as an
undergraduate, holds a MFA degree from Goddard College and received his
medical education at NJ Medical School, Cornell, and Columbia. His essay
work has appeared in medical journals including The Southern Medical Journal,
Hospital Medicine, and The Medical Times, and in newspapers in the Northeast
and in the South. He is a teacher of both medical humanities and creative
writing. His medical teaching ranges from aspects of death and dying, to
issues surrounding the patient-physician relationship and the philosophy of
medicine, while his teaching of creative writing includes workshops ranging
from basic craft to advanced artistry using the work of master-writers as
teaching tools. Joe’s short stories have appeared in MFA Pawprints and
Carve
Magazine, and he continues to actively write short stories and novels.
