Books & Coffee - February 10BOOKS & COFFEE: A MONTHLY REVIEW OF BOOKS

The next meeting of Books & Coffee, a forum for public discussion, will be held on Tuesday, February 10 at 7:30 PM at the Chattanooga Theatre Centre beside Coolidge Park in North Chattanooga.
Our speaker will be Freddie Lee Johnson III, author of two critically acclaimed novels. In Bittersweet (2002), Johnson tells the story of the bond between three brothers who defy the stereotype that African American men willingly detach from their families. And in A Man Finds His Way (2003), he writes about an African American history professor who sets out to rebuild his world after a series of shattering events.

Author Chris Benson, writing about Bittersweet, has said that, "With finely tuned characters, Freddie Lee Johnson III effectively harmonizes the varied strains of an African American family and proves that, when it comes to the black male voice, he's got perfect pitch." The Detroit Free Press called it "a tender, touching, sometimes achingly painful, and sometimes humorous testament to the power of love between black brothers and the women they love." And Publishers Weekly has praised A Man Finds His Way as "a thoughtful take on some tough contemporary issues in job politics and race relations."

Please join us for this stimulating evening of conversation with the author. Books & Coffee is cosponsored by UTC's SunTrust Chair of Excellence in Humanities and by Covenant College.

The event is free---including, as always, the coffee! Copies of Freddie Johnson's books will be available for purchase. The general public is warmly invited.

Additional Note:

Dr. Johnson will also be speaking several times at Covenant College as part of the campus observance of Black History Month. The public is invited for talks in the Dora Maclellan Brown Chapel/Auditorium at 11:00AM on both February 9 and 10. He will also deliver a public lecture entitled "The New American Civil War" on Monday, February 9, in Mills Hall 270/280. His visit is made possible by the Lilly Endowment through the Kaleo Center at Covenant College.
