I have had several requests from people about flu shots for family
members. Unfortunately, we will NOT be able to give flu shots to family
members this year because we only have 100 flu shots for faculty/staff. The
Chattanooga-Hamilton County Health Department is giving them for $12 now
for those who are considered high risk; the following is a list of examples
of those AT RISK FOR INFLUENZA-RELATED COMPLICATIONS:
1. Persons >65 years old;
2. Adults and children with chronic disorders of the pulmonary or
cardiovascular systems, including asthma;
3. Adults and children who have required regular medical follow-up or
hospitalization during the preceding year because of diseases such as
diabetes, renal dysfunction, hemoglobinopathies, or immunosuppression
(including immunosuppression caused by medications or HIV);
4. Children and teenagers (aged 6months to 18 years) who are receiving
long-term aspirin therapy and, therefore, might be at risk of developing
Reye's syndrome after influenza infection;
5. Women who will be in the second or third trimester of pregancy during
the influenza season.
OTHERS AT RISK
1. Household members of those at high risk;
2. Persons aged 50-64;
3. Travelers.
This list was taken from the package insert of this year's flu vaccine.
Thank you for your understanding,
Noelle
