Hello,
I wanted to remind you about the PBS documentary, College Track: America's
Sorting Machine. The program will air Wednesday nights from 8:00-9pm on
September 15, 22 and 29th. WTCI will be carrying the program locally.

There will be a local follow-up program on October 6 at the same time.

The 3-part series will look at the following:

Program One: Who's In, Who's Out
This segment examines the educational "sorting machine" that exists in our
public schools, which derails many kids who could be "college material".

Program Two: Expect the Best
This program considers what happens when the dream of a college education
is set in motion in classrooms and communities where expectations have been
low.

Program Three: Get In, Stay In
This segment examines which students are prepared to succeed in college and
why so many students drop out before they finish. Issues of race and class
can turn the higher education experience into an obstacle course deterring
some of the best and brightest in the country from graduating with a
four-year degree.

College Track funding for the local broadcast is from UTC, Center for
Community Career Education, Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce, Public
Education Foundation of Chattanooga, Community Foundation of Greater
Chattanooga.

I hope you have the opportunity to watch this series and consider
strategies for improving college access services in our region.

Thank you.
Sandy
