Ms. Shirl Gholston, Director of Student Support Services, recently received a
supplemental award in the amount of $28,077 from the U.S. Department of
Education. This award will be added to UTC’s Student Support
Services grant program. This additional funding will provide
scholarships to UTC students who are served by the Student Support
Services Project.
The goal of Student Support Services is to increase the retention
and graduation rates of students and to promote an institutional
climate enhancing the success of low-income students, first generation
students and individuals with disabilities. UTC’s program serves more than
200 students, with a particular emphasis on underrepresented minorities.
project services and activities are designed to minimize or eliminate
academic and other problems that adversely affect the retention and
graduation of students.
Congratulations to Ms. Gholston for receiving additional support for this
project, and best wishes for its success.
