                CIA AND THE WAR ON TERRORISM

        Professor Loch Johnson, a recognized national expert on the Central
Intelligence Agency and U.S. intelligence issues, will speak at the
University of Tennessee at Chattanooga next Monday on "The CIA & The War on
Terrorism." Dr. Johnson, Regents Professor of Political Science at the
University of Georgia, will address UTC students and the public at noon,
Monday November 5, 2001, in the University Center's Raccoon Mountain Room.

        Professor Johnson has published four books on the CIA and American
Intelligence, including most recently, BOMBS, BUGS, DRUGS AND THUGS:
INTELLIGENCE AND AMERICA'S QUEST FOR SECURITY (2000). Three prior studies
of the CIA included SECRET AGENCIES (1996), AMERICA'S SECRET POWER (1989)
and A SEASON OF INQUIRY (1985).

        Dr. Johnson served as special assistant to the chair of the
Aspin-Brown Commission on Intelligence (l995-96), staff director of the
House Subcommittee on Intelligence Oversight (l977-79) and as special
assistant to the chair of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence
(l975-76).

        Professor Loch Johnson won the National Intelligence Study Center's
Certificate of Distinction in l986 and the V.0. Key Prize from the Southern
Political Science Association. He's served as president of the
International Studies Association and secretary of the American Political
Science Association.

        Professor Johnson has received the University of Georgia's highest
teaching honor, the Josiah Meigs Prize, as well as the Owens Award for
highest research honor in the social sciences.

        The UTC Political Science Club, the Speakers and Special Events
Committee and the College of Arts & Sciences have sponsored Dr. Johnson's
lecture.
