Please see the attached letter on an important community matter. Thank you
for your support of public education

A Call for Excellence

Dear Citizens of Hamilton County,

The choice of a new superintendent to lead the Hamilton County schools is a
defining moment in our community's shared economic future. We compete in a
global economy where companies must locate their operations near the best
source of well-prepared employees. Educational excellence allows us to
retain the jobs we have while strengthening our ability to create and
recruit new ones. The critical need for a highly qualified labor pool is an
economic reality for all of us even if we do not have children who attend
public schools.

With so much at stake, it is clear that our community needs a superb
superintendent at this critical juncture. We
need:

a COMMUNICATOR who can listen to all sides, articulate the long-term
benefit of today's tough choices,
and unite our community around a shared vision for educational excellence;

an EDUCATOR with a commitment to accountability and a proven track record
of successfully challenging
students to perform at ever higher levels;

a LEADER with the business savvy to effectively manage the Hamilton County
School System, which is by
far Hamilton County's largest employer with 5,000 employees and a budget of
about $250 million.

Finding an excellent Superintendent of Schools requires a broad field of
both national and local candidates as well as a singular focus on the
qualifications that will produce a world-class school system. Every citizen
in Hamilton County has a clear stake in this selection process because it
is the next critical step in the effort to ensure that our local economy
will thrive in the 21st Century. We invite you to join us in paying careful
attention as our public officials make a decision that will affect all of
us for years to come.

Sincerely,
David Peterson, Managing Partner
