You are invited to show your support for National Coming Out Day, this
Thursday, October 11th at 7pm at the UTC Faculty Club located at 801 Oak
Street. The Psychology Department and the local community group PFLAG
(Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) are hosting an informal
gathering to show support for lesbian, gay, and bisexual men and women in
our community. The local acoustic duo Lazybeans will play, and there will
be an open mic for people to share poetry, stories, or personal
experiences. Donations will be accepted at the door, and all proceeds will
benefit Chattanooga Cares.
National Coming Out Day promotes honesty and openness about being lesbian,
gay, bisexual or transgender on campus, in the workplace and in the
community. National Coming Out Day began on Oct. 11, 1987, when half a
million people marched on Washington asking for more safety and fairer
treatment of gay and lesbian citizens.
The goal of this national project is to educate America about the lives of
lesbian, gay, and bisexual people; to dispel the myths and misconceptions;
and to help GLBT people live fuller lives. For more information, please
visit the Human Rights Campaign web site at http://www.hrc.org or you can
