REMINDER, SICK LEAVE BANK ENROLLMENT
IS HALF WAY THROUGH!

THE UTC SICK LEAVE BANK

ENROLLMENT
APRIL 1 THROUGH JUNE 30

WHAT IS THE SICK LEAVE BANK?

The sick leave bank is a common pool of hours to which staff or 12 month
faculty donate some of their accumulated leave. Then, if a member of the
bank experiences a serious personal illness or injury and has used all of
his/her sick and annual leave, a request for a withdraw can be made to the
trustees of the bank. The trustees review the request and medical
certification by the treating physician; if approved, the employee may
receive up to 60 days from the bank per fiscal year, or 90 days per illness
or injury. Hours used from the bank do not have to be re-paid. Under
certain circumstances, an employee can also receive sick leave hours from
donors in addition to the allocation from the sick leave bank. However, no
employee who is not a member of the sick leave bank can receive donations
of hours from another employee.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO JOIN?

Any regular staff or 12 month faculty member, who currently accrues sick
leave and has a current sick leave balance of 48 hours, is eligible to
join. (The sick leave balance requirement is prorated if the employee is
part-time.) Membership is kept confidential.

HOW MUCH DO I HAVE TO CONTRIBUTE?

If you work full-time, 16 hours will be deducted from your current
accumulated sick leave to join; the hours are pro-rated if you are
part-time. In the future, if the hours in the bank fall below one day per
member, an additional assessment may be made of up to 16 hours as voted on
by the bank trustees. UT Personnel Policy 382(p. 3&4): 1. "In the event
of an assessment, the membership must be notified in writing at least 30
days prior to the effective date of the assessments. At the end of the
30-day notification period, transfers will be made from the sick leave
balances of the members to the bank, except in cases where members have
notified the trustees of their unwillingness to honor the assessment." 2.
"The number of days requested from each member may not exceed 3 days (24
hours) per assessment."

WHO MAKES DECISIONS ON REQUESTS FOR TIME FROM THE BANK?

The sick leave bank is administered by a five member trustee board
appointed by the Chancellor. The trustees are responsible for establishing
the implementation of the bank and on-going administration, including
reviewing requests for usage from the bank.

HOW DO I ENROLL?

Please call (x4452) or email ([log in to unmask]) Personnel Services for
an enrollment form. Enrollment forms must be received in the Personnel
Service's office by June 30, 1999. Hours will be deducted from your
current sick leave balance at the time of enrollment by Personnel Services.
Your enrollment in the bank will become effective on July 1.
