The version I've heard goes "Those who do not learn from the past are
condemned to repeat it."

It's always said to be from the Spanish-American philosopher George
Santayana (1865-1952), but nobody ever cites exactly WHERE he wrote it.
The thought may not even be original with him, but he always gets credit
for it, like "Ford" and "assembly line."
