[log in to unmask][log in to unmask], 19 May 2003 08:32:05 -0400224_us-ascii I have a GE two door, beige with brown handles, refrigerator that
needs a defroster in the freezer section. Otherwise it's fine. You
can have it if you come get it. Let me know if you're interested.

Although a family hospitalization has delayed me in getting this out before now, I just wanted to thank everyone for the immense response to my Honda query. Who needs consumer reports when you have an educated list serve? I now feel exceptionally well-equipped to gear up my little black dissertation-mobile and get to work!

Thanks again

Amy McBride-Conner

PS: I am providing below a synthesized list of the responses (presented anonymously lest anyone fear the wrath of someone whose vehicle sports that great southern masterpiece "Calvin and Hobbes: A Boy without Britches Expresses Foreign Automotive Discontent")

AMY MCBRIDE-CONNER: HONDA MECHANIC RESPONSES....

My uncle owns Betts Automotive in East Ridge. Both my uncle and his head
mechanic worked for a Honda dealership for years. I HIGHLY recommend
them...but not because they are family. Brent has always done a wonderful
job on our Accord. He is also very affordable because his labor rate per
hour is less than most shops.

You should contact Becca McCashin on campus. Her dad works on foreign cars. Her email address is [log in to unmask]

I've used R & V Automotive Honda/Acura Service at 3200 Dayton Blvd. Ray
deForge is his name at 870-9930. I own an 89 Honda Accord LXI.

I would highly recommend Steve Smith at S & S Automotive off of Lee
Highway behind McDonald's. The phone number there is 855-3436. I have
several friends who own Honda's including both of my daughter's and they
say he is less expensive and more thorough than the Honda Dealer and he
specializes in Honda Service.

The ONLY mechanic to use on quality imports is JB Griffin at 267-6180. Please remember, he is not cheap. But what he does, he does right - the first time. Give him a call. I did my own mechanic work for 30 years. My wheelchair forces me to farm all that out and he is the only person I trust with my wifes' car.

I've used Bett's Auto Service out in East Ridge for a while now
and have always found them to do quality work for much cheaper than the
dealership. I actually bought my Honda from the man who runs the
place. I'm pretty sure they are listed in the phone book. Hope this helps

Maybe you don't want to do this, as most of us don't trust the dealerships, but I've actually had real good service from the dealer (Economy Honda)on my Odyssey. And this is my first Honda, after years of Toyotas.

If you haven't found anyone, Bohannon's on Cloud Springs Rd used to be
highly recommended. I've never owned a Honda, but I have dropped off a few
friends in years gone by over there, and they've always spoken very highly
of them. Also believe supposed to be priced reasonably.

Good luck

YES -

Ray Deforge 870-9930

All he does is honda/acura and he is cheap as well. His garage is only 10
minutes away in red bank. Mike Whittle and I both use him

Yes, I highly recommend Steve Atherton who had a shop on 312 Lakeview
Drive, Rossville. He is thorough, honest, and reasonable. He stays
booked, so call him in advance - 858-0886.

I have purchases three Hondas (Civic, Accord Wagon, Odyssey Van) fromHonda of Cleveland and no one else worked on these cars during the past17 years (except for one mistaken trip to Economy Honda in Chattanooga)and their service is incredible: courteous, quick, and effective (nogoing back to fix the same problem). The disadvantages are 1) you willhave drive to Cleveland, Tennessee (but its easy, they are at the firstexit) and 2) they charge the going dealer rates for labor and parts (youcould probably find someone to do it cheaper with attendant risk). Iwouldn't take my cars anywhere else

A wonderful group of folks at Parker's Citgo on Brainerd Road helped me keep
my 1986 Honda Prelude going for 16 years and 198,000 miles. They will ride
to work with you, take your car back to the garage, and even pick you up if you need them to. Bobby Parker is the owner, and he was very reasonable
with prices.

You might want to try the Honda mechanic in Red Bank across from Red Bank Brick. He has worked on Hondas for 30 years and does the job w/o the high labor costs.

I can recommend Steve Atherton at P&A. He has worked on several Hondas for me. He is very reliable and I think he's also very reasonable. Dean MacDougall also uses him. His place is close to Lake Winnie if location
makes a difference. His number is 858-0886.

I would highly recommend Mike Wilhoit, located in N. GA outside East Ridge on 26 Terraplane Ln. (891-7010).
He only works on Japanese vehicles.

S & S Auto Repair is excellent. The owner is Steve. The address is 6234 Perimeter Drive, Chatt. 855-3436.

Beyond the dealers (Economy Honda and Honda of Cleveland), there are a couple of shops who work on Hondas at a rate at bit less than the dealers. One is Honda Service Bavarian Auto, 6150 Enterprise Drive
(near the UPS building off Bonny Oaks and Jersey Pike) 499-8800. Another is S & S Auto Repair 6234 Perimeter Drive, (behind Home Depot on Lee Hwy.) 855-3436. They work on Honda and Nissans exclusively.

I haven't used either of these since my second Honda Accord is a 2001 and I still use Economy Honda. But, my first Accord was a 1985 and I kept it until 2001. After about 10 years, the dealer doesn't want to
work on older Honda as much, so I began using Pep Boys, local garages on Hwy 58 which wasn't always the best.

Steve Smith

He worked at Economy Honda for about 15 years before going out on his own. His wife still works in the Parts Department there.

Our families had children who were good friends at the same school for 13 years.

For what it is worth, I have been going to Bett's Automotive at the East Ridge exit of I 75. Nice fellows and i think more reasonable than Economy.

R & V in Redbank. I don't have his number with me, but I can get it from my son. Both of my sons have used him and they swear by him.

My son in law, Jeff Wooten, has a shop in East Brainerd. East Brainerd AutonRepair. 899-3296. He has been certified by Lexus. Please feel free to use
my name. He is very fair and will only do work that has to be done. If he doesn't think a car is worth working on, he won't. I referred someone in my
department to him and he was very happy with the work and knowledge that he has.

I have learned the hard way to always take my Honda to Economy Honda's service shop (off of Shallowford). Yes, they might be a little pricey, but they do it right. I have a nightmare story about getting my air-conditioner fixed once. Took it to Penske, which was
$150 cheaper. Trust me, it would've been WELL worth the $150 to have saved me the trouble I went through
