Somebody out there must know how to do this!

I'm having some difficulty trying to discuss some linguistic devices.
Specifically, the problem I'm having is that the discussion participants
are limited to electronic mail for a discussion involving classical
Latin and Greek. You guessed it. I can't figure out how to get my
email form to recreate Greek letters. And it's getting awkward having
to spell out every word with the alpha, beta, gamma, etc. technique. A
limited amount can be done with transliteration, but the technical
precision of the discussion makes this undesirable.

I can't be the only one with this problem. How does the Foreign
Language Dept. handle this? Mathematics?
