Sculptor Dan Bethune will serve as artist-in-residence at UTC in
the University Center lobby on April 8-12, 10 a.m. to 2 p .m. daily.
Bethune will present demonstrations of the process of mold-making
and casting he uses to create his works.
Bethune earned his BFA degree with a concentration in sculpture
from UTC. He received his MFA degree from the University of Florida.
At the University of Florida, he began sculpting abstract figures
based on toys and dolls. The dolls became a launching point for a large
installation that explored both autobiographical issues and larger cultural
ideas relating to contemporary masculinity.
Bethune, who lives in Georgetown, TN, has exhibited in Tennessee,
Florida and Louisiana. He has won several awards and conducted workshops in
North Carolina and Tennessee.
