I am pleased to inform you of an action taken today by The University of
Tennessee Board of Trustees naming the building at 529 Oak Street currently
housing the academic personnel and activities of the College of Health and
Human Services in honor of the late Gordon L. Davenport and his family.

Mr. Davenport, a prominent business leader of Chattanooga, was for many
years a steadfast friend and supporter of UTC, serving on numerous advisory
committees, the University of Chattanooga Foundation, and spearheading the
drive to build the community football stadium. Mr. Davenport's courageous
fight against illness was admired by this community and was a source of
inspiration for many. Naming a building housing academic programs designed
to maintain the health of our citizens and rehabilitate the health of those
suffering from no
accident or illness is a fitting memorial to this generous Tennessean.
This facility will be named Gordon L. Davenport Hall.

I extend our thanks to Mr. Davenport's family and to the Trustees.
