LEGISLATIVE FORUM TODAY (Wed. 11/28/01)
UC TENNESSEE ROOM
1:00 p.m.
I encourage all faculty, staff, and students to attend the legislative
forum. Talking to many of you I hear virtually unanimous agreement that
something needs to be done to forge a realistic budget for the State.
While there is disagreement as to the method, the need to have our
legislative leaders make hard decisions for the State is a reality. The
future of Tennessee necessitates a budget that is stable and realistic. We
need a budget that deals with the education, health and security needs of
the citizens of the State. The tobacco money is gone. Transportation
funds could be next. Our students are paying 15% more for their
educational experience. Faculty and staff continue to provide charity to
the State by accepting wages less than they could get elsewhere.
Come to the forum. Speak or just listen. Show support for legislative action.
