The Southeast District Tennessee Early Intervention System (TEIS), located
at UTC, has received $1,326,808 from the Tennessee Department of Education
to continue services in our region for 2003-2004.
Directed by Mr. David Baker, TEIS serves ten counties that surround the
Chattanooga area. TEIS program staff provide individualized services to
families with children who have developmentally disabilities. They
intervene early in each child’s life to help families plan the best
strategies for the child’s future success.
Mr. Baker engages both UTC students and faculty to assist with the program.
Students pursuing careers in physical therapy, social work, and education
receive valuable applied experience through their work with TEIS, and some
students even take part in extended TEIS internships.
Congratulations to the TEIS staff! The learning opportunities provided to
UTC faculty and students by TEIS are important and the the services provided
to local families and children are exemplary.
