Dear Colleagues,

	It has come to my attention that some people are giving students
their registration (a.k.a. advisement) code although they are not the
student's advisor. Under no circumstance should you give a student his
or her registration code unless you are the student's advisor and have
advised the student about courses for the coming semesters. 
	It is essential that students receive their registration code
after the advising session with an academic advisor. Many majors require
that students work through a series of courses in order to ensure a
timely graduation. Students who do not work with an advisor may select
the wrong courses and therefore delay their graduation.   
	Students who do not know the name of their advisor can receive
the information by reviewing the "My major, catalog year and advisor"
section of their MocsNet account. If necessary, students can contact the
Records Office regarding a change of major and can contact the
department for an advising session.
	I know that we all want to help students, especially when they
politely ask for what appears to be a simple piece of information. This
is one of those situations, however, where it is more helpful not to
help.
