Dear Colleagues:
I agree with Nick in wanting to see some evidence of pedagogical benefits
before embarking on a laptops-for-all approach.
Funds might be better spent making certain that every classroom has a
Lupton podium that can be used to provide internet access for the class AS
A WHOLE when certain kinds of information are needed during class, instead
of requiring laptops that will facilitate distraction, multi-tasking, and
students doing their own thing at times when they are supposed to be
engaged communally in the making of meaning.
