This may be obvious to most here, but I was taken a bit by surprise when
I discovered that the Echo had access to my posts on the UTCSTAFF
mailing list. At first, I was contacted by a very curteous Chloe
Morrison, Editor-in-Chief of the Echo, asking if it was ok to include my
comments from UTCSTAFF in an article for the Echo. After granting
limited permission to quote me in full with context, I received a reply
from Robby Trail, Managing Editor of the Echo stating the following:

"We are not going to run the entire messages of either you or Ms.
Webber, but we will be publishing part of what you said in response to
Weber's comments. We will say that you 'said' this is response to Ms.
Webber's comments within the story."

My subsequent reply asking for more details and providing permission for
a partial quote given there was no misrepresentation by omission or
modification of context was ignored. In short, I got the impression that
Mr. Trail was going to publish what he saw fit, regardless of my wishes.
The actual article did omit pertinent details of my statement but did not
contain any clear misrepresentation by omission or modification of
context; thus, I did not pursue the matter. I now assume that any
portion of any post to UTCSTAFF might be published in the Echo.
