LACEY SWARTHOUT NAMED SOUTHERN CONFERENCE PITCHER OF THE WEEK
SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The Southern Conference named Chattanooga's Lacey
Swarthout Pitcher of the Week the league office announced Monday.
Swarthout, a senior from Orlando, Fla., threw the school's first no-hitter
in nearly three years to open conference play, shutting out Appalachian
State 2-0 on Saturday at Frost Stadium. She came on in relief in the second
game and collected the win as the Lady Mocs edged the Mountaineers 5-4.
On Sunday, Swarthout again came on in relief, but this time in the first
inning. Brittiany Johnson started the game, but gave up a hit and a run.
Swarthout pitched seven no-hit innings to get her fourth win of the week.
Swarthout also picked up the win in Chattanooga's first game against
Jacksonville State on Tuesday by a final 4-1. She threw three complete
games, struck out 24 batters and allowed just three earned runs in four
games. She improves her record to 14-6 overall and 3-0 in league play.
This is the second time Swarthout has been honored by the league this year
with this award.
Chattanooga is 23-11 overall and will host Lee College in a double header
Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. at Frost Stadium and Furman will come to town Friday
for a two-day three-game set.
