The College of Education's Center of Excellence for Research, Teaching &
Learning (CERTL) - a partnership between UTC and the Hamilton County School
District - funded by the National Science Foundation is gearing up for the
Summer '99 semester. It brings talented, disadvantaged high school
students on campus for 80 hours each semester to work with our faculty who
are involved in the areas of science, math, engineering, and technology.
The students will start their semester hours on June 7th, 1999.
Our goal is to give them experiences that would encourage their interest in
math, science, engineering and technology as well as introducing them to
higher education with the hope that they will go on to college. They are
paid $8/hr. for their time and efforts on campus.
The faculty is paid $500/month for the semester and their department will
receive $1,000 for each student assigned to that department - to be used
for anything the department needs with the exception of travel in support
of these students on campus.
If you have any questions and are interested in participating in this
program, please call me or Sandra Abbate, the Director of the program, at
2207 so we can fax you a project description to fill out and return for
approval.
We need to hear from you soon so we can finalize the summer program.
Thanks - Marketa
