We had an unexpectedly long outage on the network this
evening from about 5:15 until 7:15pm.
On Cisco's advice, we were updating the core switch (5500)
to the latest operating system to help resolve lingering
network anomalies, but it unexpectedly caused the current
configuration to be completely lost. The config had to be
rebuilt by hand by Rusty, so it took hours instead of the
expected few minutes.
We are hopeful that the updated core switch will provide
improved network reliability.
