Hello,

The Internal Research and Exchanges Board (IREX) is seeking
applications for its Individual Advanced Research Opportunities
program.  Applications are due November 1, 2003.

This program provides grants of 2 to 9 months to predoctoral and
  postdoctoral scholars for research at institutions in the following
countries:

EUROPE:  Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia,
Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania,
Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia and Montenegro,
Slovakia, and Slovenia.

EURASIA:  Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan,
Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine,
and Uzbekistan.

CROSS-REGIONAL:  Iran, Mongolia, and Turkey

  Applicants can choose from the Fellowships in
  Policy Research/Development, or Fellowships in
  Humanities. Last year, 24 awards were made. Limited
  funding is available for cross-regional research in
  Turkey, Mongolia, Iran, and for postdoctoral
  humanities scholars.

Eligible research fields include anthropology, art history/arts,
business, cinema, criminology, economics, education, ethics,
environmental policy, folk art/folklore, geography, history,
international relations, journalism or communications,
language, law, linguistics, literature, management,
music/musicology, political science or government,
psychology, public administration, public health, public
policy, religion, sociology, theater, and women's studies.

Grant recipients receive round-trip airfare from the U.S. to the
host country, visa fees, a stipend for living expenses and a
stipend for housing.
