Mini-Baja Team Rolls Out New Race Car

UTC Engineering to compete at Mini Baja MidWest

Tuesday, after eight months and 1500 student-hours of analysis, design,
fabrication and testing, the UTC Engineering Mini-Baja Team will roll out
the college's first ever entry in the SAE Mini Baja Mid-West Competition.
The race events include design, speed & acceleration, braking, towing, muddy
bog track and a grueling 4 hour endurance. "This is the kind of project that
will attract local high school students to engineering," says Running Mocs
co-captain Mark Gilbert, "It will also draw attention to UTC's excellent
engineering program".

The Running Mocs is a twenty member multi-disciplinary team of 2nd, 3rd and
4th year students of mechanical, electrical, industrial, civil and chemical
engineering. The Mocs will travel to Milwaukee in May to compete with 140
college teams from across North & South America and Asia.

The national Mini-Baja competition circuit, sponsored by the Society of
Automotive Engineers and Briggs & Stratton, consists of three regional
competitions that simulate real-world engineering design projects and their
related challenges. Engineering students are tasked to design and build an
off-road vehicle that will endure the severe punishment of rough terrain.
